How might Teachers and Schools be the Partners of Choice in Solving Complex Learning and Education Challenges?
KENYA 2025
Co-hosted by AKF and the Kenyan Ministry of Education, our 2025 event convened the usual cross-section of education stakeholders to explore, discuss and amplify the critical role of educators as partners of choice for solving complex learning and education challenges at local, national, and global levels. Â
A new year, a new mission – to strengthen teacher agency and leadership. Over three days, delegates reflected on the past, examined the present and made steps to shape a future where teachers are supported and valued as experts in their fields.
Despite significant efforts to elevate teachers as key partners, with many progressive institutions adopting this approach, the pressing need to create more opportunities for dialogue between teachers and other education actors, formed the topic for discussion at this year’s Schools2030 Global Forum in Nairobi.

Over three days, attendees explored solutions to the challenges in achieving SDG4 by 2030, including issues of inclusion, access, learning differences, marginalisation, the impact of AI, climate change, and conflict. Recognising the pivotal role of teachers in achieving quality, equitable, inclusive education for all the Schools2030 Global Forum will deep dive into three cross-cutting subthemes:
- Teachers as Researchers
- Teachers as Innovators
- Teachers as System Leaders
In a notable change from previous year’s, the event this year included a fantastic opportunity to strengthen dialogue between teachers and key stakeholders in the forum of the Walimu Soko – the Global Teacher Marketplace. Fashioned around a traditional Kenyan ‘soko’ or ‘market’, teachers from across the globe set up stalls where they showcased their ideas, innovations, teaching and learning materials and rich aspects of their culture, for delegates to visit, explore and probe. This created wonderful opportunities for deep engagement and creating valuable partnerships.
Other exciting additions this year included an interactive storytelling performance of one of the Jabali & Sauti stories by from the Lam Sisterhood, an ‘Experience’ room where delegates could engage in their own Human-Centred Design projects, and an immersive ‘mystery-solving’ room!
Teacher-Led Learning Innovations
At the 2025 event, teachers shared their incredible innovations at the vibrant Walimu Soko – the Global Teacher Showcase. This marketplace of ideas and creativity was a vibrant space that not only celebrated learning but culture and diversity too. Below are the innovations that teachers showcased from around the world, as well as the ‘teaser’ posters that were displayed prior to the Soko, to give delegates a taste of what was to come!
